BMW X1 35i Alpina B3 Trans Flash – Transform your BMW auto 6-speed transmission with a TCU flash
Time to upgrade to the BMW X1 35i Alpina B3 Trans Flash. We hooked up our laptop, opened WinKFP and flashed the transmission on our E84 35i project car with the Alpina B3 software. This is our first modification in what will be a long list of upgrades on this amazingly versatile vehicle. The trans in stock form is sluggish and has a habit of shifting from 1st gear to 3rd in manual mode when under hard acceleration. The Alpina B3 flash eliminates this “ghost shift” and shortens the delay between shifts.
This flash also adds the gear selection in the cluster in both sport and regular drive mode. Now when in drive mode, the gear selection indicator shows D1, D2, D3 and Sport mode shows S1, S2 etc. Some people complain that the drive mode is lazier and shifts too soon and some people complain that the shifts are too harsh at times. You have different software options for your trans as well but we still love the Alpina flash the best.
If you haven’t flashed your automatic E90 335i/xi or E84 35i yet, you need to do this right away. The Alpina flash is one of those mods that you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner. We did this mod first because adding power to this car with the stock trans software just doesn’t make sense.

Here’s the results after we flashed the trans. 5.37 0-60
Here’s the 0-60 results using Dragy after the BMW Alpina B3 flash. We had the same ambient temperatures and like before, only used 0-60 times from Dragy. If you’ve been following our X1 35i project you know that our sleeper started with 5.81 and 5.64 0-60 times in bone stock form. As you can see, this simple and free upgrade made a noticeable improvement in the X1’s 0-60 times. More than 2 tenths of a second in a 0-60 is a significant improvement and may make the difference in winning a light-to-light drag. Depending on the car you’re running against, .2 seconds in 0-60 can be a half of a car-length. I screen grabbed one of the invalid Dragy runs by accident. I’ll update with one of my other valid runs. This particular run was slightly downhill according to Dragy.
I’ll write a review of the GPS Dragy one of these days. This thing is awesome. Much cheaper than a Vbox and very easy to setup and use. When the weather warms up here in the Northeast, I’ll make some 1/4 mile passes at a racetrack to check it’s accuracy. It’s rechargeable and connects to your phone via bluetooth. Want your own Dragy? What’s next for our awesome E84 X1 35i you ask? Time for a tune and what better tune than the Burger Tuning JB4. Not just because we already had one from our last X1 35i but because it’s so incredibly tune-able. After the JB4 we’ll be going FBO plus a Pure Turbo Stage 1 and spraying Meth.
