Our Awesome BMW X3M Competition Hits Pocono Raceway for a Track Day

with our BMW X3M Competition sitting 1.2″ lower on H&R sport springs, running a JB4 on map 4 and a mix of 100 octane racing fuel and E85, we hit the track. Unsure of how a 4,500 lb. SUV would do at Pocono, we stayed in Group B solo and prepared to give some point-by’s. As I’ve mentioned before, a BMW product specialist once told me this beast should be named a M3X not a X3M and he was right. The X3MC is at home on the track and deserves the M badge.

Hooked on Driving Session 1 at Pocono Raceway in the BMW X3M Competition

This was my first time on Pocono Raceway and it’s an amazing track in the Mega double infield configuration. The long straight made for some high speeds and gave the X3MC plenty of room to reel in most cars in group B. On one of my first laps on the front straight I actually paid attention to the HUD and noted 157 MPH. As the day went on I became more comfortable with the big 14 degree bank of turn one and drove deeper into it before letting off the throttle. My old GoPro Hero 3 was along for the ride and captured some of the fun. Enjoy!

BMW X3MC HOD Session 2 at Pocono Raceway was even more fun

By session 2 I had learned the track a little and had a better understanding of what the X3MC was capable of on track. The brakes are fantastic. At the end of session 2 they had just started to fade a little but this beast weighs 4,500 pounds and I was on them hard. The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S’s were starting to get a little greasy as well. All things considered, the X3MC is a blast to track. Unfortunately the BMWCCA will not let me run in their events because the don’t allow SUV’s. Someone said they may now allow X1’s but during the X1 35i Project Sleeper they would not.

Check out the Hooked on Driving Northeast website. These guys do an awesome job putting together a track event and if you’re in the Northeast, I highly recommend joining them at Pocono Raceway.
