BMW X1 35i Tune for our project car starts with a JB4

BMW X1 35i Tune. Now that the transmission is vastly improved with the Alpina B3 flash, it it’s time to turn up the heat or HP. We had a JB4 on the shelf from a previous BMW X1 35i tune and it was the perfect next-step in our project E84 X1 35i build. We also have the bluetooth connect kit, so logging our progress will be easy.

We have a lot of experience with the JB4 platform and because we plan on adding a Water-Meth injection (WMI) setup, the JB4 with Burgers FSB is a great choice. Meth allows us to safely add more boost. It cools the Intake Air Tempatures (IAT’s) and because of that we have less risk of detonation. It’s like running race gas all the time. We’ll be running a heavy mix of E85 as we get this X1 sorted.

The JB4 Results-

After installing the Jb4 in our BMW X1 35i mods project we made a couple of pulls in Map 5 and drove approximately 30 miles to allow map 5 to do some learning. At this point our “Project X1” has the JB4 and a Fuel-It stage 2 fuel pump. The fuel pump was not necessary yet but we had the X1 in the shop to replace the transfer case. With 40K miles on the X1 it seems premature for the transfer case to fail but it did and it wasn’t cheap. We’ve built two previous E84 X1 35i’s and this is our first TC failure.

Anyway, the car is stock except for the fuel pump and JB4. Our first pull resulted in a 4.68 0-60 time. We shifted manually and only made this one pull with the Dragy running. I think with some testing and more learning we will manage 4.5 0-60 or less. That’s almost a full second faster 0-60 after installing the JB4. How does it feel? Amazing, it feels like a totally different car. Even though the X1 is AWD, I had to turn off the traction control because the wheels were spinning and shutting down the throttle electronically.

What’s next for project X1 35i Sleeper?

The BMS N55 intake will be our next modification. Not just because we already have one but our last N55 X1 showed it’s best times with this intake installed. Follow our Sleeper Project and current build sheet here.

You have lots of options for your BMW X1 35i tune but we are familiar with the JB4 and really like it’s logging features and map selection on the steering wheel. The next tune will be a Back-end-flash (BEF) with the JB4 over it controlling boost, meth and running logs. MHD is another option for your BMW X1 35i tune and can be used for the BEF as well. Our BMW X1 35i Sleeper Project has come a long way. Thanks for stopping by and leave a comment if you have any questions that we can answer. Always happy to help a fellow BMW N55 modder if possible. Remember, modding your car may shorten it’s life and cause bad things to happen. Use caution and enlist the help of a professional. After installing the JB4 make sure you visit the N54tuning forum. This is a great resource for maps and logging.
