The BMW E84 X1 35i Tuning with Methanol Injection
We haven’t installed the meth kit on our current X1 35i yet but this is a log from one of our previous BMW E84 X1 35i Pure Turbos S1 X1’s. The original log file has considerably more data but we cut down a number of columns to keep it simple. The remaining columns are Rpm, Target (boost target set by the JB4), Boost (actual boost pressure at the manifold), IAT (intake air temp), PWM (pulse width modulation), FP_H (High Pressure Fuel Pump), IGN1 (Ignition BTDC), Meth (Methanol flow rate), FP_L (Low pressure fuel pump doesn’t work on N55), AFR (very important! Air/Fuel Ratio), Gear and Map setting in JB4.

Let’s breakdown the log above. This BMW E84 X1 35i was JB4+FBO+Meth+Pure Turbos Stage 1 turbo upgrade and running 93 octane pump gas. The log starts at the upper end of second gear and ends before we finished the pull in third due to space in this post. Note the spike in boost just after shifting to 3rd at 4,624 RPM. The turbo is fully spooled in 2nd, then after the shift to third boost is reduced by the JB4 to protect the automatic trans, but once the waste-gate closes boost hits 23.1 PSI.
The other thing to watch in this log is the AFR’s. They begin to go rich towards the top-end of 3rd and settle in around 12.7. Rich is way safer and what you want to see under load. If your car goes lean the JB4 will go into fail-safe mode and automatically drop to Map 4.
The above log was pulled from the JB4 mobile app using the JB4 Connect Kit. Pretty slick setup actually. You can set your JB4 to automatically log whenever you get to a certain percentage of throttle. For example; we set the auto log to 90%. Anytime we have the app running and connected to the JB4 via bluetooth it will auto log if we step on the gas 90% or more. This is handy to find those pesky faults that always seem to popup when you’re not logging…LOL.
